The Corlea Trackway is an Iron Age road of oak planks laid across the bog near Kenagh, Co. Longford, in 148 BC. It is the largest trackway of its kind found in Europe.

An 18-metre stretch of the original road is preserved in a specially designed hall at the visitor centre, where it’s kept in controlled conditions. Its purpose is still debated: it may have been part of a ceremonial route linking the Hill of Uisneach with the royal site of Rathcroghan.

The visitor centre is about 15 minutes’ drive east of Lanesborough and opens seasonally, so check opening times before you go. The Corlea bog walk starts beside it.
