Cross the bridge from Lanesborough and you’re in Ballyleague, its twin village on the Co. Roscommon bank of the Shannon. The waterfront here was refurbished as part of the Shannon Blueway, with new paving along the quay wall, a decorative railing around the old harbour, landscaping, seating and parking.
The riverbank is popular for walking and cycling, and the public marina is right beside it, so it’s a lively spot when the boats are in. It’s also home to Lough Ree Access for All, with coffee and outdoor seating looking over the river.
Come in the evening for views back across the water to Lanesborough and the bridge.
