Lanesborough is small, but it sits at one of the best spots on the whole Shannon: the point where the river opens into Lough Ree.

  1. Book a session at The Sweaty Yeti (book now), a wood-fired sauna with a hot tub and cold plunges beside the river.
  2. Take a reformer class at Precision Pilates (book a class) on Main Street.
  3. Take an accessible boat trip on Lough Ree with Lough Ree Access for All (book now).
  4. Walk the Commons North Woodland loop along the shore of Lough Ree.
  5. Cross the bridge to Ballyleague. Halfway over you leave Longford and Leinster for Roscommon and Connacht.
  6. Fish the hot water stretch, known to anglers all over Europe.
  7. Book a tour and tasting at Lough Ree Distillery (book now) on Main Street.
  8. See the Corlea Trackway, an Iron Age oak road across the bog.
  9. Climb Sliabh Bawn for views over the Shannon and Lough Ree.
  10. Finish the day with dinner at Sorrento, a pizza from Píosa (order online), or a pint in Adies or The Yacht Bar.
