Lough Ree Distillery is a family-run distillery on Main Street in Lanesborough, Co. Longford, set up in 2018 by siblings Peter, Sheila and Mike Clancy in their hometown. It makes award-winning Irish whiskey, gin and vodka, including Sling Shot Distilled Irish Gin, the first gin ever to use peat as a distilled botanical, and Zesty Citrus Vodka, twice named Best Irish Vodka at the Irish Whiskey Awards.
In 2022 it distilled its first whiskey, believed to be the first whiskey distilled in Lanesborough since the 1780s. Its range includes Bart’s Blended Irish Whiskey, named after the founders’ father, and The Bridge series of single-cask releases.
Visitors can book a distillery tour with a tasting of Sling Shot Gin, Zesty Vodka and Bart’s Irish Whiskey (from €15), an in-depth whiskey tasting or a gin and vodka tasting (from €25), or a bespoke experience for groups. Book through the distillery’s website.
